Washed-Out Side Yard Fixed with Boulder Wall and Stone Path

Here's what we were working with - a side yard that kept washing out every time it rained. The downspout was dumping water right at the surface, the ground was eroded and uneven, and getting to the backyard meant walking through a muddy, leaf-covered mess. Not a great situation.

The fix needed to do a few things at once. We set a small boulder wall along the tree line to hold the grade in place, buried the downspout so water gets carried away underground instead of running across the surface, and spread fresh dark mulch to clean up the whole area. That combination alone stops the cycle of erosion that was making this space such a headache.

Then came the Fond du Lac stepping stones for the actual walkway. These flat, natural stones give you solid footing through the whole side yard - no more picking your way around soft spots or tracking mud. The irregular shapes fit together in a way that looks intentional without being overly formal. It suits the wooded feel of the property.

Side yards like this get ignored all the time because they're not the first thing you see from the street. But they're the spots that cause real problems - foundation concerns, muddy entries, unusable access to the back. Getting the drainage right and putting down a proper surface means this area actually works now instead of just being something you tolerate.
