Some yards just need a reset. Not a full redesign - just someone to come in, sort out the mess, and put the right materials in the right places. That's exactly what this property needed. Overgrown side yards, a failing timber retaining wall, exposed downspouts sitting on the ground, and a backyard that had no real shape to it. We came in and tackled all of it.
First thing we dealt with was drainage. The sump pump and gutter lines were both dumping water right at the foundation. We buried those properly and got them draining away from the house the way they should. That's the kind of work you don't always see, but it matters - a lot. Water sitting against your foundation is a problem that gets expensive fast if you ignore it.
From there, we replaced the old rotting timber wall with a solid boulder wall along the side of the house. Natural boulders are one of our go-to solutions for retaining and structure because they hold up, they look great, and they fit the landscape naturally. We paired that with fresh river rock tucked right up against the foundation - clean edging, no weeds creeping through, and zero maintenance headaches going forward. The side yard that used to be a tangled mess with nowhere to walk now has a flagstone stepping path running through river rock, giving it a finished, functional feel.
Out back, we regraded the yard to give it a clean, even surface. It's set up perfectly now to seed or put in a garden - the homeowner has a blank canvas to work with. That kind of grading work is easy to overlook, but it's the foundation for everything else you might want to do with the space later.
Little upgrades like these add up fast. Better drainage protects the home. A boulder wall replaces something that was already failing. River rock and clean edging pull the whole exterior together. It's not flashy work, but it's the kind of thing that makes a real difference in how a property looks and holds up over time.
